How to Set Up a Changelog Page in Under 5 Minutes

You know you need a changelog. But building one from scratch? That's a weekend project you don't have time for. Here's how to go from zero to a live, public changelog in under 5 minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account (30 seconds)

Head to VersionTap and click "Get Started Free." Enter your email and password. Done.

Step 2: Name Your Project (30 seconds)

After signing up, you'll see a simple onboarding wizard. Enter your product name — for example, "MyApp."

VersionTap automatically suggests a URL: versiontap.com/c/myapp. You can customize it if you want.

Step 3: Write Your First Entry (3 minutes)

The markdown editor opens with a template to get you started. Here's a quick example:

## Dark Mode Support

We've added dark mode across the entire app. Your preferences
sync across devices automatically.

Toggle it from Settings > Appearance, or let it follow your
system preference.

Pick a category (New, Improved, or Fixed), and click Publish.

Step 4: Share It (30 seconds)

Your changelog is now live at your URL. Share it:

  • Add a "Changelog" link to your app's footer or help menu
  • Post it on Twitter/LinkedIn
  • Include it in your next email newsletter

What You Get for Free

The free tier includes:

  • 1 project
  • Up to 10 entries
  • A beautiful, hosted changelog page
  • Category filtering for visitors

Next Steps

As your changelog grows, you might want to:

  • Upgrade to Starter for unlimited entries and a custom domain
  • Upgrade to Pro to embed a "What's new" widget in your app
  • Collect subscribers who get emailed when you publish (Pro feature)

The hardest part of maintaining a changelog is starting one. You just did that. Now keep the momentum going — your users will thank you.
